Dr. Thomas & Emily Best moved to Fort Winnebago in 1849. The Fort and military road were constructed under the direction of Lieut. Jefferson Davis in the late 1820's. right center is the Pettibone Block Building, and the Armory is the fifth building pictured at lower right.
