Photo at left shows the dam that formed the Big Spring pond on its left. Running over the dam is the Mill Road, and at the right of the picture is the Ward Mill, originally constructed by the Landt family. Just beyond the mill was the Pierce Hotel (ctr), which was built around 1850. It was recently moved and completely renovated, serving today as a bed and breakfast for area visitors. Beyond the farm at the left of the road is the general store, whose second floor served as a community dance hall; and just beyond the store was a blacksmith shop.
Pictured at lower left and center are the graves of Robert M. and Rebecca Ramsey, and John Best, wife of Sarah Borton. Both are located in the Big Spring Cemetery (left).
Below right: The Big Spring Congregational Church, which was built about ten years after the close of the Civil War. It too has been recently renovated.
